Hitting Reset This Morning

My day didn't start out so well. My 6 year old son woke up again at 5:00 am and just couldn't settle back to bed. He was being noisy and kind of bratty so we spent the morning raising our voices at him and then by 7:00 when I was trying to take the dog out for her morning business, my son just would not take no for an answer (he wanted to play outside right away). As usual these days, I lost my shit. I really did. I felt awful right away for yelling at him. Parenting is tough sometimes. And while the boy has to learn that no means no, I probably could have taken a deep breath before yelling at him yet again. Did I feel guilty? Absolutely. Did it ruin my morning? Yes. Did I cry all the way to work? Yup...I totally did! #mommyproblems

But then I saw this quote, and it reminded me that even though we had a rough start to our day, and as much as the kids are driving me crazy right now, I love them with all of my heart and I am just so grateful for the life that I have and the family I get to wake up to every morning. So we had a bad morning. Is it the end of the world? Nope. It's really not.

After I saw this quote, I called the kids from the office to tell them that I loved them and wanted to wish them a good day with daddy. I reminded them both to be good listeners for daddy and to treat each other kindly.  Hearing their cheerful voices helped turn my morning around and I felt better knowing that I didn't let another minute go by without reinforcing to them how much I love them, and how I want to make sure we all have a great day today whether at home playing with daddy, or at work.

Sometimes you just need to hit the reset button, and I'm glad I did this morning.

Happy Tuesday everyone :)
